Channeling is communicating with spiritual beings. These beings can be people who are deceased, spirit guides, ascended masters and teachers, angels and even God.
The person who has the ability to communicate is often called a channel. People with this ability have also been called mediums, psychic or intuitive.
Spiritual beings can communicate directly by using the voice and body of the channel using these different techniques:
- Trance Channeling – The person receiving the messages will put themselves into a hypnotic trance where they have no knowledge or recollection of what is happening. He or she simply “goes away” and then wakes up when the session is over. The spiritual being then uses the persons voice and body to communicate their message. This is the type of channeling that Edgar Cayce used.
- Conscious Channeling - The channel usually goes into an altered state of consciousness, but is aware of what they are saying and doing. They may allow the spiritual being to use their voice and body to pass along a message. The person may edit the material being presented, or shut down the connection when they are not comfortable with the information that is being offered. This is the type of channeling that Esther Hicks uses to channel Abraham.
- Automatic Writing, Painting, or Music - The channel may be in a trance or be conscious. They allow their body to be used to write, draw, create music or any other form of artistic expression. Some creative people refer to this a being in the “zone” where their work just flows out of them without them consciously planning what they are creating.
Information can also be received without allowing the spiritual being to have control of your voice and body:
- Claircognizance is getting information through knowing. You just know certain things without doing any research or being told. Information just seems to pop into your head through a thought or an idea. You may just know that something is right for you or that you are in danger.
- Clairaudience is getting information through hearing. For some people this is like hearing an actual voice or sound and for others it is like hearing a voice or sound inside of your mind that is different from your normal train of thought.
- Clairvoyance is getting information through seeing. This can be through dreams, visions, pictures in your mind or actually seeing something appear before you that others can’t see.
- Clairsentience is getting information through feeling. You may feel a certain emotion like sadness or fear all of a sudden. Or you may have a physical feeling like tingles in your body, the hair standing up on your arms or sick to your stomach.
I believe that we all have this ability and with practice can learn to tune into spiritual beings. Most often this starts with learning to quiet the thinking mind through meditation.
Then begin to pay attention to any thoughts, sounds, pictures or feelings that come to you. This is the beginning of learning to channel spiritual beings.
